Go to the following site:

Read the "Miracle of Rice".  Outline at least 7 facts that you did not know about rice before today.
Once you write them all down, click on the "Build a Rice Paddy" link (upper left of the link you are already in).  Outline the steps required to build a paddy.

If you didn't finish this assignment in class, it is due Friday.

For those of you that didn't complete this yet: Make a list of 5 things in your bedrooms at home that could be clues about yourself for a future archeologist.  Write a paragraph describing what an archeologist might discover about YOU.


Monday, May 20th

Field trip reminder - Please be sure to wear long pants and rubber-soled shoes.  This is a requirement from the Oriental Institute.  Also, there will be plenty of food options at OI.  If you want to purchase your lunch, you have options like Subway, Einstein Bagels, Papa John's.  Hopefully we will have time to walk to Medici's for ice cream.  One scoop is $2.25.

Social Studies:

Social Studies: 
Explore the history of the Marco Polo and Mongol empire, the lives of the people connected with it, and the effects on other people.

For this activity, you will use the Macs to research either Marco Polo or Genghis Khan.  You will have the entire period to research, collect and paraphrase information.  The final copy of your research will be due on Monday.

Assessment:
It is expected that all students will write a minimum of one page (either hand written or typed - 12 font, double spaced).   The key components to include are as follows:
Name, timeline, personality, region, key points (at least 5; one point will be given for each).  Additional points may be awarded to students that have outlined little known facts about either person.

Maximum points earned = 10.

Complete the "First Emperor" Reading and Vocabulary SkillBuilder worksheet.  Since so many students were out today, this will not be due until Friday.

Tuesday, May 7th

Social Studies
Study for the chapter 7 test.  As you know, you can use your notes.  Make sure they are great!

As I mentioned in class, this is not an easy test.  You really need to know your stuff.  Even if you have good notes, review them!

There are 10 M/C, 10 matching and 5 short response.


Monday, May 6th

Writing: (6A only)
What are the advantages and disadvantages of being immortal?

Start with a T Chart and then move towards completing a 3 paragraph outline (introduction, main body and conclusion).

You may want to include:
1) your thoughts on immortality.
2) How your determination to live forever would affect your daily life.
