You don't have any homework over the break.  However, if you would like to take advantage of the time off, feel free to work on your 1000 word assignment.  The final copy is due on Friday, April 5th.

Reading:
As we continue reading "Letting In the Jungle", you should be working on making updates to your Jungle Phrase Book.

Writing: 
1000 words assignment - Step 1.  Complete the "Parts of a Story" worksheet.  I am going to check this in on Friday for HR 216 and on Monday for HR 214.  This is the image we are using for the story.  Look at the details!

We have one more class period to continue our research.  Presentations will take place on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Your job: identify and researching one topic relating to Ancient Rome.  Your paper should be at least 2 pages typed (12-14 font, double spaced).

You are not limited to these options.  Go crazy!  Goal: WOW your classmates with the information you are finding.  Your challenge: find NEW information relating to your topic.

Just as we are doing in class daily, be prepared to explain WHY ______ (insert your topic here) took place, ended, were so powerful, you get the idea.

The sites provided above are a starting point! Eventually, you should identify other relevant web sites.  To start, you need to document at least ten key items relating to the topic.  You will be able to continue fine tuning this throughout the week and weekend (if needed, some are done).

As mentioned, the individual 2-3 minute presentations to the class will take place Monday and Tuesday.

You will all be given a rubric to guide you through the process.  You need to have at least 3 sources, cite your sources using the following format (online example):

Social Studies:
Prepare for Wednesday's Chapter 8 Test.  Make sure your notes are great!  You can use them on your test.  Just having your notes complete is step 1.  Step 2: be familiar with your notes so you can easily answer the 20 questions on the test.

Chinese New Year!  Complete the Chinese Zodiac chart for all of your family members.  Complete the "dots" worksheet.  If you can't see any of the numbers, do the best you can!

Make sure you are caught up with your notes.  Your Chapter 8 Social Studies Test (where you can use notes) is next Wednesday.

Thursday, February 7th 

Reading:
"The Dog of Pompeii" test is Friday.  Make sure you read the story at least one more time.  Forty percent of the test is based on comprehension.

Reminder to students that did not yet turn in the Vocab worksheet from last night.

As mentioned to all students over the past several weeks, the homework policy is becoming more strict (consistent for grades 6-8).  If your homework is more than 2 days late, it will no longer be accepted.  Excused absences have additional time.


You will have a test on "The Dog of Pompeii" Friday.
